Free manga release date API

The Mangainfo API answers when the next English volume of a manga comes out. It gives every English edition with its date, ISBN, publisher and format, and how far English is against Japan. It is free and read only. There is no key and no account.

Base address: https://mangainfo.com/api/v1. The full description is in openapi.json.

Want the dates in Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor? Add the MCP server in a minute. No code needed.

Dates, limits and caching

Dates are as exact as the source. A day reads 2026-11-03 and a month reads 2026-11. The field precision says day, month or year. Mangainfo never turns a month into a day.

The API lists the series that have a page on Mangainfo and the English editions those pages show. Adult series stay out. The releases endpoint takes a window of at most 62 days. An edition dated to a month counts when the month overlaps the window.

Each address allows 60 requests a minute for the API and the MCP server together. Over the limit the answer is 429 with Retry-After in seconds. Answers may be cached for an hour and never past midnight UTC. Send the ETag back in If-None-Match and an unchanged answer comes back as 304.

Any site may call the API from a browser. It answers GET only and sets no cookie.

Errors

Errors are problem details (RFC 9457) as application/problem+json, with type, title, status and detail. 400 is a wrong parameter. 404 is a series or ISBN without a page on Mangainfo. 405 is a method other than GET. 429 is the rate limit.

MCP server for AI assistants

The MCP server at https://mangainfo.com/mcp gives AI assistants and coding agents the same data. It speaks Streamable HTTP and needs no sign in. Each answer is a short text with the data as structured content and the Mangainfo page to cite. The MCP server page has one click setup for Cursor and VS Code, steps for Claude and ChatGPT, and a live try.

Use and credit

The API is free for any site, app, bot or AI answer. Credit "Data: Mangainfo" with a link to the page in the source object of each answer. Release dates, ISBNs and volume counts are facts. Descriptions are written by Mangainfo and may be quoted with that credit. English edition data comes largely from ISBNdb. Japanese volume data comes from the NDL Search API of the National Diet Library (CC BY), edited by Mangainfo. Titles, status, genres and creators come partly from AniList. Every source is on the data sources page.

Cover images are not part of the API. A badge or a widget needs no code at all: see the tools for your site. The whole catalog as files is the open dataset in CSV and JSON. A plain text summary for AI agents is at llms.txt. The terms apply.

Questions

Is there a free API for manga release dates?

Yes. The Mangainfo API gives the English release date, ISBN, publisher and format of every English manga volume it lists. It needs no key and no account. Credit "Data: Mangainfo" with a link to the page the data comes from.

How many requests may I send?

60 a minute from one address. Answers carry an ETag and may be cached for an hour. A request over the limit gets status 429 with Retry-After.

How exact are the dates?

As exact as the source. A date is 2026-11-03 when the day is known, 2026-11 when only the month is, and the precision field says which. Mangainfo never guesses a day.

Which manga does it cover?

Japanese manga published in English in the US and the UK, the series that have a page on Mangainfo. Adult series stay out.

Can an AI assistant use it?

Yes. The MCP server at https://mangainfo.com/mcp gives Claude, Cursor and other clients read only tools with the same data, the license tracker and the English Manga Report. Each answer names the Mangainfo page to cite.

Does the API give cover images?

No. Mangainfo may show its covers on its own pages but not pass them on. Link to the series page, which shows them.
