What the story is

Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku is a manga by Yuuji Kaku. It started in Japan in 2018. The genres are action, adventure, mystery and supernatural. Its themes are survival, samurai, mythology and the anti-hero.

The lead is Gabimaru the Hollow. He used to kill for the ninja of Iwagakure. Then he tried to quit for the sake of his wife. The village chief had him arrested for it. Every attempt to execute him has failed.

Enter Sagiri. She comes from a clan of official executioners and brings Gabimaru a way out. The shogun in Edo wants an elixir of eternal life. It lies on Shinsenkyo. That is a far-off island that legends call paradise. Any convict who brings the elixir back earns a pardon.

Gabimaru takes the deal. His wife is waiting for him at home. He is not the only killer sent to the island though. Each convict travels with an executioner. That executioner will cut the convict down for any step out of line.

So expect gory fights. Expect an island that is far from heavenly. At its core this is a survival story. If you like dark action that still has heart you are in the right place.
