How to read Kaguya-sama: Love is War in English: where to start

What Kaguya-sama: Love is War is about

Kaguya-sama: Love is War is a manga by Aka Akasaka. It began in Japan in 2015. The genres are comedy, psychological, romance and slice of life. School life and the school club setting sit at its core. There is a tsundere streak in the cast too.

The setting is Shuchiin Academy. The school teaches the children of Japan's elite. Miyuki Shirogane runs the student council. He has no money and no connections. What he has is the top grades in the whole school. Kaguya Shinomiya is his vice president. Her family ranks among the richest and most powerful in Japan.

Each of them has a crush on the other. Neither will say it. Both are far too proud. In their eyes the one who confesses has surrendered. So every small moment between them turns into a contest of wits. The question is always who cracks first. A narrator calls each round like a sports match. Then there is Chika Fujiwara. She is the cheerful council secretary. Her presence keeps wrecking their careful plans.

The chapters are short and tightly plotted. Each one works as a self-contained bout. This is a good fit for readers who enjoy clever banter. It also suits anyone who likes characters who overthink everything.
