Kentaro Yabuki has 5 series with English volumes. 3 of those are complete in English. The other two still have Japanese volumes with no English edition. All the counts below are as of October 2026.

The series run from the most popular to the least. Every one of them has finished in Japan. So the only question is how much of each you can read in English.

DARLING in the FRANXX

The listing gives no plot summary for this one. The tags still say a lot. It is a mecha series filed under Drama, Ecchi, Mecha, Romance and Sci-Fi. The themes are Dystopian, Monster Girl, Super Robot and Kaiju.

Yabuki is credited with both story and art.

It finished in Japan at 8 volumes. All 8 are out in English. That makes it complete. See the DARLING in the FRANXX page for every volume.

To Love Ru

Rito Yuuki is in the bath when a girl with a devil's tail interrupts him. Her name is Lala. She is a princess from the planet Deviluke and she has run away. Her father has a marriage planned for her. She wants no part of it.

This is a comedy with romance, ecchi and sci-fi in the mix. The themes are Female Harem, Heterosexual, Aliens and School. Saki Hasemi shares the author credit. Yabuki's role here is the art.

The series ran 18 volumes in Japan. All 18 are out in English. It is complete. The full list sits on the To Love Ru page.

To Love Ru Darkness

Momo Belia Deviluke has fallen for Rito Yuuki. He is the clumsy human engaged to her older sister Lala. Momo has a plan to deal with that. It needs a lot of girls.

The genres and themes match To Love Ru exactly. Saki Hasemi is again on the author credit. Yabuki once more handles the art.

This is where the English release falls short. The series finished in Japan at 18 volumes. Only 6 are out in English. No next English volume is listed. That leaves twelve Japanese volumes without an English edition. Track it on the To Love Ru Darkness page.

Ayakashi Triangle

No plot summary is on file for Ayakashi Triangle. The tags place it in urban fantasy. It mixes Action, Comedy, Ecchi, Romance and Supernatural. The themes are Ninja, Youkai, Urban Fantasy and Exorcism.

Yabuki did both story and art.

It ended in Japan at 16 volumes. English has all 16. It is complete. Volume dates are on the Ayakashi Triangle page.

Black Cat

Fans of action will want to look here. Black Cat is listed as Action, Adventure, Comedy and Fantasy. Its themes are Guns, Revenge, Super Power and Assassins. There is no plot summary on file.

This is another series with Yabuki on both story and art.

It is also the furthest behind in English. Japan has 20 volumes. English has 1. No next English volume is listed. The Black Cat page will show any new date.

Where to start

A short series that is complete in English is the easiest start. By that measure the order looks like this.

  • DARLING in the FRANXX is the shortest complete series at 8 volumes. Yabuki did story and art.
  • Ayakashi Triangle is complete at 16 volumes. It is another one with Yabuki on story and art.
  • To Love Ru is complete at 18 volumes. Yabuki drew it.

The last two are harder starts. To Love Ru Darkness has 6 of 18 volumes in English. It uses the same cast as To Love Ru. Read To Love Ru first if you want it. Black Cat has 1 of 20 volumes in English. It is a sample for now and not a full read.

Short on time? Go with DARLING in the FRANXX. Want a longer run with Yabuki writing too? Ayakashi Triangle is the pick.
