Boy Meets Maria starts with a familiar spark and turns it into a story about gender and self-expression. The spark is love at first sight. Taiga joins his high school's drama club because acting is what he wants to do with his life, and the person who catches his eye there is Maria. Then Taiga finds out that Maria is a boy. From that point the story asks him and the reader to look past first impressions. It was the debut of PEYO, who went on to create Kimio Alive. The art is delicate. It suits readers who want a thoughtful LGBT+ school drama.
