Genshiken

げんしけん

Genshiken is the nickname of a college club whose official name sounds like an academic society devoted to modern visual culture. In practice it is a room full of otaku. Members build plastic models and play video games. They try cosplay, buy fan comics and plan trips to Comifes, the series' stand-in for Comiket. Kanji Sasahara starts university shy and a little ashamed of his tastes, but he signs up. Saki is no otaku at all. Her boyfriend Kousaka is a member, and she wants him out of there. Instead she keeps tagging along. Over four years the group turns into real friends. Chika Ogiue, a fan who loathes her own hobby, adds more friction later. Expect frank talk about porn games and erotic fan comics. It suits any fan who has felt a little embarrassed about it.
