Fragments of Horror
魔の断片
Ma no Kakera
Junji Ito had spent eight years away from horror before this book. His editor doubted the first storyboard, so Ito started that story over. Fragments of Horror gathers eight stand-alone tales. The opener keeps its hero in bed: a husband so scared of the dark spirits he sees around him that he never leaves his futon. Blackbird starts with a puzzle for the police, since a man with two broken legs has somehow lasted a month in the forest. Another story pairs a daughter too anxious to make any choice with the assistant hired to whisper each step in her ear. The mood swings from a sad ghost story to body horror and grim jokes. There is nudity, gore and sexual content. It makes a varied sampler for Ito fans.
