In Ichi the Witch only women have ever been able to use magic. Each kind of magic is a living creature that sets its own trial. Beat the trial and the magic will serve you. Ichi is a young hunter who grew up wild in the mountains. He is already stalking a dangerous magic called Uroro when the strongest witch alive arrives to claim it. Uroro's trial is to destroy its heart and no woman can harm that heart. Ichi can. He traps the beast and spears its heart. Its power passes to him and he becomes the first male witch anyone has heard of. Desscaras the witch takes him on as her assistant to keep an eye on him. Ichi sees everything through a hunter's eyes and much of the comedy comes from that. It suits shonen readers who like fresh magic systems and an odd hero surrounded by witches. Osamu Nishi writes it and Shiro Usazaki draws it.
