Ryuu no Gakkou wa Yama no Ue
Ryoko Kui made her professional debut with this book of short stories, years before Delicious in Dungeon. Every piece takes a fantasy idea and drops it into ordinary life to see what happens. Dragons fly over a university campus. Centaurs pull carts for a living. An angel in middle school frets about moving up to high school. A hero goes home to his village and finds the return a lonely one. Most of the stories first appeared online or at fan comic events and were reworked for the book. Two were drawn new for it. There is no single plot to follow. What ties the collection together is Kui's matter-of-fact view of the fantastic. Delicious in Dungeon readers will find the same down-to-earth approach to magic here in an earlier form.
