Taika's Reason

タイカの理性

Taika no Risei

Because the birth rate keeps falling, pets are being turned into humanized members of society. Ao has little love for people. Taika, her pit bull, is the exception. Then she finds Taika standing over her father's mauled body. Ao is not ready to lose her dog as well as her dad. Her mother arranges for Taika to be humanized, and Ao takes the new dogperson with her to school. There he meets Tsunayoshi, a German shepherd who is a top police officer. Tsunayoshi starts teaching him to swap canine habits for human ones. Then traces of blood turn up in Ao's locker. This is the new series by Paru Itagaki of BEASTARS. It mixes a mystery with animal people and hard questions about what makes someone human. The violence suits older teens and adults.
