The Rising of the Shield Hero
盾の勇者の成り上がり
Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari
Naofumi Iwatani is a college student who opens an old book in a library and lands in another world. He has been summoned as one of four legendary heroes to hold back waves of monsters. The other three wield a sword, a spear and a bow. Naofumi gets a shield that cannot be removed and he cannot attack with any weapon. Everyone at court treats him as the weakest of the four. Then his only companion robs him and falsely accuses him of assault. Now he is shunned and broke. He turns bitter and buys a young demi-human slave named Raphtalia to fight for him. The Rising of the Shield Hero is an isekai about climbing back from nothing. It suits readers who like game-style leveling and a prickly anti-hero. Slavery is part of the premise.
