The Scum Laugh is a collection of linked short stories in full color. All of them deal with beastfolk the world calls mad and with the people who have to live alongside them. Haut is heir to a rich elk family and wrestles with their gender. Haut's love for the household's fox-woman servant Clivia has to stay hidden from a tyrannical father. Deseo is a wolfman who has started a new family. Years earlier he killed the old one simply to see what it was like. The stories jump around in time and rarely offer comfort. Expect murder and gore including cannibalism, a cruel upbringing and themes of trauma and suicide. The soft and furry art makes the cruelty hit harder. It is for older readers with a strong stomach who like dark anthropomorphic drama.
