What Black Clover is about

Black Clover is a manga by Yuuki Tabata. It started in Japan in 2015. The genres are action, comedy, drama and fantasy. Magic, super powers, demons and a medieval setting sit at its core.

Asta and Yuno are orphans. They grew up in the church of Hage. Hage is a poor village at the edge of the Clover Kingdom. Almost everyone in their world can use magic. Yuno turns out to be a prodigy. Asta cannot make even a spark. So he trains his body without a break. He also yells his dreams at anyone who stands near him.

Both boys want the same thing. They want to become the Wizard King. The Wizard King leads the Magic Knights of the kingdom. Grimoires are handed out at fifteen. Yuno gets one with a four-leaf clover on it. That is very rare. Asta walks away with nothing. Then a battered black grimoire finds him. Inside it is a sword that cuts through magic. He lands in the Black Bulls. They are the squad of misfits with the worst reputation in the kingdom.
