What Blue Lock is about

Blue Lock is a soccer manga by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yuusuke Nomura. It started in Japan in 2018. The genres are action, drama and sports. Its themes are battle royale, athletics, fitness and the anti-hero.

The setup goes like this. Japan's national team has crashed out of yet another World Cup. The Japan Football Union responds with a radical project called Blue Lock. Three hundred high school forwards get shut inside a training facility. There they compete against each other. The aim is to forge one world-class striker for Japan. A player who gets cut loses his shot at the national team for good.

The program is run by Jinpachi Ego. His message is blunt. A great striker has to be a total egotist.

The lead is Yoichi Isagi. He has just lost a big match because he passed instead of shooting. Blue Lock forces him to rethink everything about how he plays.

Think of it as a survival game played in soccer cleats. It suits readers who like ruthless competition and sharp rivalries. It also suits anyone who enjoys watching players keep finding new weapons.
