Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun in English: where it stands before volume 25

What the story is

Kamome Academy runs on rumors. Seven of them are famous. The best known involves a spirit in a stall of a girls' bathroom. Call it up and it grants your wish.

Nene Yashiro has just started high school. Her biggest wish is a boyfriend. So she gives the rumor a try. The ghost who shows up is not the girl from the old legend. He is a grinning boy. Her wish goes wrong almost right away. She ends up as his assistant. From there the two of them take on the other supernatural rumors at the school.

The opening chapters play it light. Plenty of the jokes land on Nene. Later the ghost stories turn sad and eerie. The art is ornate and stylish with the feel of a picture book. Readers who like supernatural school mysteries and slow-burn romance are the natural audience.

The series is by AidaIro. Its genres are Action, Comedy, Drama, Mystery, Romance and Supernatural. Youkai, mythology, ghosts and school are its themes.

Where it stands in Japan

Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun began in Japan in 2014. It has not ended. The series is still releasing there.
