The ghost in Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun is not the girl from the old school legend. Kamome Academy has seven famous spooky rumors. The best known says a spirit in a girls' bathroom stall will make your wish come true. Nene Yashiro has just started high school. More than anything she wants a boyfriend. So she tries it. The ghost who answers is a grinning boy. Her wish goes wrong almost at once. She ends up as his assistant. Together they deal with the other supernatural rumors around the school. The early chapters are light and goofy with plenty of jokes at Nene's expense. Over time the ghost stories turn sad and eerie. The art is ornate and stylish with a picture-book feel. It is a good fit for readers who like supernatural school mysteries and slow-burn romance.
