Aria
ARIA
Akari Mizunashi can row a gondola backward better than anyone. Simulators back on Manhome, the old Earth, gave her that odd skill by accident. Now she has to learn to row forward properly. She hopes to qualify as an Undine, one of the gondoliers who guide visitors through the canals of Neo-Venezia. The city copies Venice down to its waterways. Its planet is Aqua, once Mars, now an ocean world thanks to terraforming. Akari trains at the small Aria Company under her mentor Alicia. The company president is a fat blue-eyed cat. Her friends Aika and Alice train at rival firms. Much of the narration comes from e-mails Akari sends to someone she has never met. The story began under the title Aqua and continues here. Fans of calm iyashikei like Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou will feel at home.
