Barakamon
ばらかもん
The villagers in the remote Goto Islands call their new neighbor Sensei. Seishuu Handa is a gifted young calligrapher who knows nothing about rural life. His exile is his own fault. Handa punched an elderly curator who dismissed his calligraphy as textbook-like. His father's response was to banish him to the islands, where he is supposed to concentrate on his art. Peace and quiet never arrive. The house he moves into used to be the local kids' hideout, and some of them still have keys. Naru, a hyperactive first-grader, drops by every day. Neighbors bring him food and pull him into village life. Slowly his brushwork starts to find a voice of its own. The title is local dialect for a lively, cheerful person. It is warm, funny and suitable for all ages.
