Battle Royale

バトル・ロワイアル

Shuya Nanahara will not kill his classmates, even if the government says he must. That is a dangerous stance in this version of Japan. Every year the state throws one junior high class into a killing game called the Program. Shuya's class thinks it is going on a school trip. Instead they end up on a remote island, where each student gets a collar that can explode and a weapon chosen at random. They have three days to whittle the class down to one survivor. Shuya sides with Noriko Nakagawa and tries to protect whoever he can. Koushun Takami adapted his own novel with artist Masayuki Taguchi, and the manga spends more time on each student's past. It is graphic, with heavy gore, nudity and scenes of rape. This is survival horror for adult readers with strong stomachs.
