Ikigami: The Ultimate Limit
イキガミ
Ikigami
Fujimoto's job is to hand people their own death notice, one day in advance. The notice is called an ikigami, and the government insists it is a public good. By its logic a nation that knows anyone might die will treasure life and work harder. The deaths are arranged years ahead. Every schoolchild gets a shot, and one shot in a thousand holds a nanocapsule. It bursts when its carrier is somewhere from eighteen to twenty-four. Fujimoto has his doubts about the system he serves. Each story follows a different recipient through those final twenty-four hours. Some chase one last good deed. Others lash out. Motoro Mase's dystopia is grim and thoughtful, and it is rated for mature readers.
