Innocent

イノサン

Innocent is set in Paris in the 18th century. Charles-Henri Sanson is the heir to the Sanson family. For generations they have served as the city's executioners. He is a gentle and sensitive boy who cannot stand the thought of killing. Yet the family trade waits for him. Outside his home people shun the Sansons for their work. At home he is pushed to accept his role. The story is based on a nonfiction book by Masakatsu Adachi about the real Sanson family. Shinichi Sakamoto draws it in an ornate and theatrical style. The series asks what it means to take a life for the state. Executions and torture are shown in graphic detail and there is sexual content. It suits adult readers who like dark historical drama and striking art.
