Cheeky Brat is a shoujo romantic comedy built around a high school boys' basketball team. Yuki Machida is the team's manager. She is calm and capable and very hard to rattle. She also secretly pines for team captain Kido. When he gets a girlfriend she hides in the clubroom to cry alone. A first-year named Naruse happens to see her. He is a gifted player and a good-looking flirt who talks back even to his seniors. From that day on he will not leave Yuki alone. He teases her and pushes her buttons at every turn. The story follows practices, games and ordinary school days as the two keep clashing and slowly grow closer. It suits readers who like a prickly love interest with a soft side and a sporty school setting.
