Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You
スーパーの裏でヤニ吸うふたり
Super no Ura de Yani Suu Futari
Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You is a gentle comedy about two tired adults. Sasaki is a worn-out middle-aged office worker. The best part of his day is a short chat with Yamada, the bright young cashier at his local supermarket. One evening she is not at her register. Sasaki wants a cigarette instead. The front of the store is a no smoking zone. Then a flashy woman calls him around to the back. She says he can smoke there. She looks and acts nothing like the cashier. Readers can tell right away that she is Yamada off the clock. Sasaki has no idea. So she gets to hear exactly what he thinks of the cashier. Their smoke breaks soon become a habit. It suits readers who like slow and warm romance between grown-ups with plenty of awkward humor. Cigarettes are part of nearly every scene.
