Gege Akutami manga in English: every series and where to start

Jujutsu Kaisen

In Jujutsu Kaisen the dark feelings people carry turn into curses. Jujutsu sorcerers hunt those curses. They do it in secret. Akutami did both the story and the art. The genres are action, drama and supernatural. Its themes are urban fantasy, demons, super power and curses.

The series ran to 30 volumes in Japan. All 30 are out in English. That makes it complete in English. No next English volume is listed because there is nothing left to come. At 30 volumes it is by far the longest of the three.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0

This one is a single volume. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is a prequel. It takes place before the main Jujutsu Kaisen story. Its lead is Yuta Okkotsu. He is sixteen. Bullies find him an easy mark.

Akutami wrote and drew it. Action and supernatural are the genres. The themes add school and magic to the demons and urban fantasy of the main series.

Japan got 1 volume. English readers have that 1 volume too. The series is complete in English. There is no wait for anything else.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is the odd one out. It lists two authors: Gege Akutami and Yuuji Iwasaki. Akutami's role here is story. The genres are action, sci-fi and supernatural. Aliens sit among the themes alongside super power, curses and urban fantasy. That sci-fi side is new next to the other two series.

Modulo is finished in Japan at 3 volumes. No English volume is out yet. VIZ Media will release volume 1 on 5 January 2027. So it counts among the 3 series in English but not among the 2 that are complete.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is the clear first pick. It is one volume. It is done in English. It also comes before the main Jujutsu Kaisen story. Akutami did both story and art on it.
