Inio Asano manga in English: every series and where to start

Inio Asano has 4 series with English volumes. The English run is complete for 3 of them. All four finished in Japan. Inio Asano did both story and art on every one. The full list sits on the Inio Asano creator page. All volume counts below are as of October 2026.

Goodnight Punpun

Punpun Onodera is still in elementary school when the story opens. He is drawn as a simple cartoon bird. The world around him gets realistic detail. The genres are drama, psychological and slice of life. Its themes are coming of age, philosophy, denpa and urban life.

Inio Asano wrote and drew it. The series ended in Japan at 13 volumes. English has all 13. Nothing is left to wait for. It is the longest of the 3 series that are complete in English. Every English volume is listed on the Goodnight Punpun page.

Solanin

Solanin is a much shorter read. Meiko Inoue left college 2 years ago. She took a job at an office equipment maker in Tokyo. Every day at that job wears her down. The genres are drama, music and slice of life. Coming of age, band, heterosexual and found family are its themes.

Story and art are both by Inio Asano. It finished in Japan with 2 volumes. Both are out in English. That makes the English edition complete. See the Solanin page for the volumes and their dates.

Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction

A gigantic alien mothership appeared over Tokyo 3 years ago. It is still hanging in the sky. This one mixes comedy, drama, sci-fi and slice of life. Its themes are aliens, politics, military and coming of age.

Inio Asano did story and art here too. The series finished in Japan at 12 volumes. English is at 10. That leaves two volumes without an English edition so far. Our facts list no next English volume yet. It is the only series in this guide that is not complete in English. Track it on the Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction page.

What a Wonderful World!

This series is filed under drama and slice of life. Philosophy is its one listed theme. Inio Asano again handled story and art. It finished in Japan with 2 volumes. Both have English editions. So the English run is complete. The What a Wonderful World! page has both volumes.

Where to start

The easiest start is a short series that is already complete in English. Two series fit that:

• Solanin with 2 of 2 volumes in English
• What a Wonderful World! with 2 of 2 volumes in English

Either one is a full story in 2 volumes. You can finish it without waiting on a release.

Goodnight Punpun is the natural next step. It is also complete in English. It just asks for more time at 13 volumes.

Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction is the one to pick up last. English stands at 10 of 12 volumes for now. Readers who start it today will reach the end of the English edition before the end of the story.
