Tsutomu Nihei manga in English: every series and where to start

Tsutomu Nihei has 3 series with English volumes. Only 1 of them is complete in English. The other two still trail their Japanese runs. All three appear on the Tsutomu Nihei creator page on Mangainfo. The counts below are as of October 2026. The series run from the most popular down.

BLAME!

The lead is Killy. Killy barely speaks and keeps walking. The setting is the City. It is a maze of concrete and steel. Nobody knows how far it goes or where it ends.

The genres are Action, Drama, Horror, Psychological and Sci-Fi. The themes are cyborgs, a post-apocalyptic world, cyberpunk and robots. Nihei handled both story and art.

BLAME! is finished in Japan at 10 volumes. English has 9 volumes out. That puts English one volume short of the full run. No next English volume is listed yet. So the series is not complete in English. Volume details sit on the BLAME! series page.

Tower Dungeon

Here the labels tell you what kind of book it is. Tower Dungeon is an Action, Adventure and Fantasy series. Its themes are dungeons, dragons, necromancy and survival. Nihei again did the story and art.

This is the only one of the three still running in Japan. Japan has 7 volumes so far. English has 5 volumes out. The next one is volume 6. Vertical publishes it on 24 November 2026. After that English will sit one volume behind the current Japanese count. New Japanese volumes may widen the gap again. The full list is on the Tower Dungeon series page.

APOSIMZ

APOSIMZ is the one you can read to the last page in English. It is finished in Japan at 9 volumes. All 9 volumes are out in English. That makes it complete in English.

The genres are Action, Adventure and Sci-Fi. The themes are cyberpunk, robots, an anti-hero and tragedy. Like the other two it is Nihei on story and art. Every volume is listed on the APOSIMZ series page.

Where to start

The numbers point to one clear first pick. A short series that is complete in English is the easiest way in. Only one Nihei series fits that.

• APOSIMZ has 9 volumes and every one is out in English. You can buy the whole story and finish it.
• BLAME! has 9 of its 10 volumes in English. The last one has no English date yet. Start here if you can live with that wait.
• Tower Dungeon has the fewest English volumes at 5. It is also the only series still releasing in Japan. Volume 6 lands on 24 November 2026. Start here if you want to follow a story as it comes out.

For a first Nihei book the pick is APOSIMZ. It is the only one with no gap in English. After that BLAME! is the longest read. Tower Dungeon is the one to keep up with month by month.
