Billy Bat

ビリーバット

In 1949 the comic Billy Bat is a hit in America. Its hero is a detective who happens to be a bat. The man who draws it is Kevin Yamagata. He is a Japanese American who served in occupied Japan after the war. Then a nagging doubt sets in. Did Kevin really invent Billy or did he draw him from something he saw over there? He travels to Japan to track down the original. Instead he gets pulled into a real unsolved death from that same year. From there Naoki Urasawa and Takashi Nagasaki widen the story far beyond one man and one comic. It suits readers who liked Monster or 20th Century Boys. It also suits anyone who enjoys history mixed with conspiracy and a puzzle that unfolds slowly.
