The Flowers of Evil

惡の華

Aku no Hana

Takao Kasuga is a bookish middle school student in a small town boxed in by mountains. He carries a copy of Baudelaire's poems everywhere. He quietly worships Nanako Saeki. Everyone in class admires her. Late one afternoon he finds himself alone in the classroom with her gym clothes. He grabs them and runs. Someone sees him do it. Sawa Nakamura is the class outcast who openly scorns everyone around her. She does not report him. Instead she forces him into a contract and pushes him to admit who he really is. The Flowers of Evil is a raw psychological drama about adolescence and shame and the urge to escape a stifling town. It is for readers who can sit with uncomfortable characters. Expect bullying and sadism along with sexual themes.
