Happiness is Shuzo Oshimi's take on the vampire story. Makoto Okazaki is a timid high school boy who gets pushed around by delinquents. His real trouble starts in a dark alley. A girl he has never seen before bites him on the neck. After that his body starts to change. He feels a thirst for blood that he cannot shake. Makoto has to hide what is happening while he works out what he has become. Oshimi treats the change less as a power fantasy and more as a lonely and anxious kind of horror. It suits readers of psychological horror and fans of The Flowers of Evil and Oshimi's other work. There is blood, violence and some nudity.
