The Promised Neverland

約束のネバーランド

Yakusoku no Neverland

Grace Field House stands alone in a forest. Dozens of orphans live there and eleven-year-old Emma is one of the oldest. The children have numbers tattooed on their necks. They take hard tests every day. Their caretaker Isabella is Mom to every one of them and they adore her. Now and then a child leaves to join a new family. When little Conny goes she forgets her stuffed rabbit. Emma and Norman run it out to the gate, which is off limits. What they see there tells them where those children really go. They bring in Ray, the only other kid as sharp as they are, and start working on a way out. It has to stay hidden from an adult who seems to notice everything. The Promised Neverland is a thriller of plans, bluffs and counterplans. It suits readers who like tense mind games and smart kids up against long odds. Some scenes are disturbing.
